MAYOR HELPS BULLY OFF

Penguin Hockey Club's annual mixed festival at Worthing was a highly succesful two days in excellent weather although the pitches were hard.

The Mayor, Mr R. D. Clapp, and Penguins youngest member, Allen McCrory did the bully-off to start the festival and on Saturday 173 goals were scored in 60 games.

Dave Riley and Bob Atkinson scored for Penguins to beak Clacton Penguins 2-1, and Riley (2) Atkinson and Pat Cummuskey scored in a 4-0 win over Witney Banks.

Penguins skipper Pat Cummuskey captained the Sussex County Mixed HA team which lost 3-0 to the Festival XI on Sunday.

On Sunday, Penguins scored through Rileyfor a 1-0 win over Mickleton but the last match was lost 2-1 to Matchsticks, Atkinson scoring. Goals total on Sunday was 179.

A dance at the Sports Centre on Saturday was attended by 900.

In his programme message, Mayor Clapp said he hoped Worthing would become the mecca of mixed hockey and already the first seven county championship was likely to come to Worting, possibly in September this year.
